SM4-CL is actually more like two completely independent mono compressors in a compact 1/3rd rack space unit. Most small stereo compressors have a common control section that is shared by the left and right channels, however, you can actually use the SM4-CL as two separate compressors in one. The stereo/dual mono switch allows you to use as two independent compressors, or as a single stereo compressor.
